Privacy Policy | Science Forums

How Science Forums handles browsing information and feedback.

Browsing the library

You can read the collection without creating an account or making a payment. The publication does not ask you to submit personal details to access an article.

Technical information

Hosting, delivery, and security services may process an IP address, browser information, requested URL, referrer, request time, and response status to deliver and protect the site. The precise records depend on the services in use.

Feedback by email

If you send feedback, the information you provide is used to review and respond to your message. Please send only details relevant to your request. Private contact information is not added to an article correction.

Cookies and the current site

You can read this site without an account. We currently do not run Google AdSense, personalized advertising, or third-party audience analytics on the reading pages. The site does not currently sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Hosting and security providers may process request data or use strictly necessary technical cookies to deliver and protect the site.

Google advertising, if enabled

If Google advertising is introduced, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet, subject to applicable consent choices.

Advertising is not active here at present. Before it is enabled, we will update this policy to identify the services and advertising partners actually in use and provide the required privacy and consent controls. Ad personalization is optional; declining it must not prevent access to our articles.

Your advertising and cookie choices

You can manage or turn off personalized ads through Google's Ad Settings. Participating third-party vendors also offer choices through the Digital Advertising Alliance. These controls apply to the services and browsers they cover; disabling personalized ads does not necessarily remove all ads or all cookies.

Your browser can delete or block cookies. If optional services are introduced, a privacy choices control will let you review and change any consent required for those services. Where required for advertising in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we will use an appropriate Google-certified consent management platform before requesting personalized ads.

Retention and service providers

We use browsing records to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the site, and use email messages to respond to the request they concern. Information is kept only as long as needed for these purposes or applicable legal obligations. Our hosting, delivery, security, and email providers may process this information on our behalf, including in countries other than the one where you live. We do not publish private contact details in an article correction.

Children's privacy

Our articles are general science reading for a broad audience. We do not offer children's accounts or knowingly request personal information from children under 13, or the applicable age of digital consent where they live. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent personal information can contact us to request its removal.

Requests and changes

Contact [email protected] about information you have sent or a privacy concern. Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, or deletion. Some records may need to be retained for security or legal reasons. This page may be updated as the site's practices change.
